Hey guys! I have an 05 Audi S4 and I am coming here from Audiworld for my oil info as there is not enough consitent info there regarding this subject. I'm deciding on an oil for the summer. My car calls for a 0W-30 or a 5W-30 or 5W-40 as the dfault grades. Even though the 0W-30 is probably fine I feel it is an energy conserving grade that I would rather use in the winter. I have some GC for that come Nov. My choices are Silkolene Pro S 5W-40, Motul E-tech 0W-40 or Elf Excellium LDX 5W-40. The elf and silkolene only come in 5 liter jugs and like I said I will be putting in GC in the winter as I am dying to try this out what with all the love it gets on here. The motul comes in 1qt. bottles so it is more convenient if I need to have a qt or 2 extra on hand. I'd need to have an open 5 qt. jug in the Fuchs or Elf and I'd rather not keep it open for ~ 1year. The Elf is PAO and the others are Ester based. What do you guys think of this oil. I can't seem to find any UOA's of it and the search function takes a 1/2 hr. and comes up w/ vague info sometimes. I've heard M1 T&SUV gets good reviews here but my dealer would flip if he found I put that in and I bring the oil there for the change anyway. Is the M1 good, BTW?

I think the M1 T&SUV is as good as any of the oils that you mentioned. If it meets the specs that your Audi calls for then I would use it.

Another '05 S4 guy, also from NY, recently went through an oil decision as well. I believe he ended up with Mobil-1 T&SUV. Do a search for V8Blitz and you can read his posts and the responses.

Yes, I found that. Alot of opinions! Sometimes that makes decisions tougher; great opinions from both sides.

In theory it seems like a great oil. It does not, however, meet any specs for my car other than it being an SJ/SL oil

Don't be distracted from your mission - you have a new engine under warranty. The best oil is one that meets the specs for the engine as published by the manufacturer.

That said, the ELF, the MOTUL and the Silkolene are all excellent products, as good as any in the world. You can let price be your guide - buy the least expensive one!

Cheers

I believe most of the Elf synthetic oils are group3/group4 mix except their 0w-40 which I believe is group4 only (and their race oils). Personally I think Elf oils are waay over priced especially when Mobil 1 0w-40 is practically available anywhere and meets a boatload of specs and is group4. Silkolene and Motul are good oils too, but still pricey.

You need to get together with V8Blitz. He didn't seem to be enthusiastic about TSUV he's running.
