Lincoln MKX

Ford's probably changed suppliers, etc, and not the exact same system any more, but I Know the AWD system in Dad's old Ford Freestyle (FiveHundred Wagon) was really a Volvo haldex type System. the rear Diff had both Ford and Volvo logos in the Castings.

if my Memory serves correctly...
a PTO sat in between the Engine and Trans, with a shaft running to the Rear Diff.
when the car sensed front wheel slippage, it would engage the Clutches at the front of the Diff, and send power to the rear wheels. and basically as long as the engine was on, the shaft was turning.

My Uncle has had 3, 2 MKX's, and Currently a Nautilus, all FWD. it's a Transverse Engine.

now, the New Explorer/Aviator is normally RWD, with the Traditional North/South engine trans layout, and sends power to the Fronts when needed.
