CEL definitely does work; managed to get one a few weeks ago for leaving the gas cap loose.

RockAuto is a good company but they have many grades of some products from economy to severe duty. If you buy the economy grade then expect less than OEM.

My only beef with RA is the postage compared to Amazon Prime.

Depends on your application.. The Bosch direct fit O2 sensor for my 97 Saturn is $13.45 shipped on amazon..

I've been waiting for an O2 CEL on my wife's X3. At 12 years and 190k I'm debating whether to replace the upstream sensors even though they haven't thrown a code.

Really depends how long you're going to keep it and how much it's going to cost you to replace them. If you can get them for low money, and you can DIY, it might be worth it. The old ones are probably slow switching so you'd probably get slightly better gas mileage and if you drive it for a couple more years, you might make it back in gas mileage. I'd say if you're going to get rid of it in less than a year, probably not worth it.

I've ordered plenty from RA and never had a beef. However, I've never had a return and always order either a known name brand (Monroe, Timken, Delco, Delphi, etc.) or err on the more expensive side.
