I used to buy an Honda oil filter (Honda 15410-MCJ-000) for my Honda lawn tractor at $15.39 a pop back in 2004. A year later I switched to Purolator PL14612 ($3.22) and Fram PH6607 ($1.99 Lowes clearance)......Never have any problem.

Go to napaonline.com. Put in an Oklahoma City zip code. It will bring up the 3 stores there. Go to visit store website. Look in lower left hand corner - $10 off $20 purchase, July 1 - 31, 2015. Irishman

OPE doesnt need a $12 filter I dont care what anyone says...find a $2-3 automotive filter that fits and sleep good at night....its normally the 3614/3600 style for the 3/4x16 threads but sometimes the smaller 4967 is a better fit... or the 6607/7317 style for the 20x1.5 threads...works on about 99% of the standard commercially available units out there....been there done this...bought the tshirt.

Except for the fact that these are not the exact same size like I was asking for, and these have completely different bypass settings than the manufacturer specifies. If something were to happen under warranty (or even after), your $2-3 filter would then become a $1,500 engine replacement. I could buy a lot of t-shirts for that. No thanks.

I ended up going with the Napa Gold 7035 x2. Used Irishman's tip for $10 off $20, and because I waited patiently in line, the manager also honored the 10% off reservation discount, even though they aren't supposed to. Final price for 2 was less than $14. This will get me through the next 2 winters, 1 for tomorrow (8hr change), and 1 before the first start next spring (1yr oci@~60-80hrs). Thanks for all the help.

How do you know it has completely different bypass settings? Have you seen a spec sheet on the 49065-7007 that includes the bypass information?

These little engines without filters will go decades on basic maintenance. Buying "better" filters is simply burning money. I wouldn't trust a Puro in a car for a minute. I run one in my John Deere mower with absolutely confidence.

Yep and just as an example...Kohlers latest and greatest double throw down heavy duty industrial super duty oem filter(the yellow one) is a much talked down upon champ ecore.:) and they work fine...have a few of them(plus lots of others) cut in my previous posts take a look...we do alot of OPE oil changes in my business and ive cut a bunch so Im not talking out my backside...only time I would use a $$$ filter in OPE is while under warranty...once it passes the warranty line its the cheapest thing that I trust....
