For a good price on a max performance tire, there's the Sumitomo HTR Z III

They are supposedly very good in the beginning but wear quickly and performance even quicker.

This has always been the most significant difference between the inexpensive summer tires like Kumho, Hankook, Toyo, etc. They start out pretty good, but they wear fast and completely change as the tread goes away. Their soft ride gets hard, their tread noise spikes, etc. The PSS's keep their nice ride and handling right out to the end of their life.

Absolutely!
I got Kumho Ecsta when bought VW CC as CPO. They had to put new tires, so they put Kumho.
After 10K you had to pray not to come to position to have to brake in rain. At 12K 3 tires got out of balance and since then my household has moratorium on buying anything that is not Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental or Pirelli.
