Latest HOA crazyness

The neighbor emails you or the HOA emails you after the neighbor complained ? If it's direct from the neighbor, do you need help setting up a filter to block his/her emails entirely ?

Probably isn't an HOA issue whatsoever
Email from him. Given that I am President of the HOA I will know if he sends an email to the HOA.

A neighbor a few doors down is State Police. He said he would tell the guy to go F himself.

I have always been blessed with great neighbors, but doing what I used to do, got to see lots that weren't so blessed. I would do nothing, except maybe wave to him the next time it happens. You know he is watching. So many Karens these days its not even worth the time to worry about them.

I’d bet that the dog has had a bathroom break in neighbor’s yard. Let’s hear full disclosure….
As I said my dog follows me everywhere. My back yard is where she goes for her pee and pooh breaks and the spots are there to show. Today I am actually going to try and re-seed where she goes pee.

Many others at the HOA say they are sorry I live next to this neighbor. And say it would not happen with a normal neighbor.

Neighbors are annoyed but have yet to push the issue of this neighbor using his loud gas backpack blower for hours every week from spring to fall. He wants his grass to look perfect, not a leaf of blade of grass out of place. Now however it looks like crap as he has had to use grass & weed killer on several patches of creeping bentgrass in his front yard. So many large brown patches.

If you are the president of the HOA its time to go full Karen Mode and lay down the hammer.

The batty neighbor feels the need to uphold the law, his laws, down to an inch, demonstrating society can't function in an orderly manner without him. He may want to moonlight as janitor at a middle school. It would be therapeutical. 😜

A lady at the HOA who worked in social services at various hospitals can describe his personality disorders. I cannot remember the ones she has mentioned.

It's a small HOA with only 25 homes. Built 20 years ago. I would like to avoid crazy rules and "Karen" and have people use common sense. If you have a house here it's worth $550K and above. So not people living in their cars or trashed trailers.

Sure but you never know what's going on in your neighbor's attic.

Got it. Well this is just someone looking for a conflict. Maybe you could give them an early Christmas present and have their yard treated with a heavy application of fertilizer and a nice red clover over seeding.

He has creepy cameras everywhere. Including one that does not cover any of his property, only my drive and front yard.

One issue I can think of is doesn’t your HOA require all dogs be leashed or fenced?
If so you give the guy a chance to come at you with a complaint.

I never knew a HOA that didn’t require leash or fence. Our new community even limits how long a dog can be left alone in a fenced yard. I agree with these restrictions on dogs.

I have seen many unsecured dogs charge or attack people walking their dogs on a leash in communities. It happened to my wife walking our dog one time. A unsecured dog came charging from his property into the street where my wife was walking our leashed dog. It was a bad experience but no one was hurt except how she screamed at the owner for his attitude. My wife protected our dog by picking him up and screaming at the unleashed charging dog.

I saw a similar instance in our new community involving not us but a nearby neighbor. It’s freaking scary and why these rules are on the books.

The property line thing I don’t understand but it is what it is I guess. I wonder if this is frustration on his part because of an unsecured dig? The community doesn’t sound like a happy place in all your posts, sad.
Life is too short to have to live like this

My truck is parked so passenger door is near property line. I walk over to get something out and my dog follows me. She takes 5 or 6 steps and is 6" over property line onto neighbors grass. I get an email from neighbor saying he will call animal control.

At this point I just ignore the email.
I refuse to buy a house that is part of an HOA. Just can't bring myself to have to pay perpetual HOA fees.
I live in a quiet small town in the middle of nowhere where property taxes are very stable and no HOA fees and zero crime.
I gave up on the idea of moving to Florida after doing some in depth research on the rising house insurance, car insurance, property taxes, HOA fees, increasing traffic, etc in Florida.

HOA are not all bad. They do prevent someone from parking a bunch of old rust junkers in their front lawn.

The fees kind of go along with the services. Pool, fitness center and tennis courts will mean higher fees.

A was reading that a high percentage of new developments are HOA and the towns like them being HOAs. The homeowners pay property tax bur the town does not need to maintain the roads. Or trash pickup.

For my own personal situation, I am really glad my home doesn't have an HOA and never will.
I don't see any advantage to perpetual "forever" expenses of thousands of dollars a year on my budget.
Think about how much money that would amount to in a lifetime. Maybe $100,000 in HOA fees?

Well, Perpetual HOA's are bad news for everyone's monthly budget. Just another "forever expense".
Depends. The HOA I'm under maintains the bike paths, retention ponds, and a berm that separates the subdivision from the main road bordering the subdivision. And enforces the bylaws regarding property maintenance. The board does a good job getting things done and managing costs while doing so. One of the papers I had to sign at closing was that I knew there was a SSA governing the subdivision which, should the HOA ever get dissolved, would let the city activate a line item on our property taxes (currently $0) to cover the maintenance that the HOA does.

Talk of dissolving the HOA came up about 5 years ago and I reminded people that the SSA stipulation exists and if the disgruntled home owners got their way, I'd expect that the SSA levy would be at least 4 times what we're paying the HOA. Turns out the ward alderman was on the call and his response was "if you're lucky."

I'll keep my HOA, thanks.
