Last Coal Plant in UK to shut down at end of Sept. 2024

Here is a update on the Hinkley C Nuclear Reactor that is under construction in Britain. The data is actually over a year old so the final cost might even be more. At 1.35 US dollars to the British Pound the final cost is expected to be over $60 B US dollars. Don't shoot the messenger. ;)

It's a pair of nuclear reactors, about 3,260MWe, but yes, the price is eye watering. The project is primarily financed by EDF and CGN (China, minority partner now). The EPR is an incredibly complex reactor and all EPR projects have been challenging, even in China.

Also, Sizewell C just received a 14.2 billion pound funding boost, which means it will almost certainly be going ahead as well:

Like HPC, it's a pair of EPR's (which, given it's an EDF project, makes sense).

Meanwhile, in France, their program is now focusing on the simplified EPR2 reactor, which is supposed to be less expensive to build. We'll see how that turns out.
