Working in Lafayette Louisiana for 36 hours. All I can say is wow. Have never seen a small city have this many individually owned restaurants of quality. Seems on every street there is a local restaurant specializing in something that sounds delicious. All very easy to get to and accessible. Even the quant downtown area had very accessible parking.

Initial observations suggest this might be a great retirement place for people that enjoying eating good meals, and are not on a California budget.

I hear you on that. I considered moving to a town near there (Opelousas) in the late '90s. Spent a fair bit of time around there and the food was fantastic everywhere. Really impressive. It's got to be four times as impressive now I bet with the revolution in general American culinary culture that's taken place over the last decade +.

Today's lunch at little place Houma, LA. Drum with brussels sprouts. Lunch special, $9.99 . Such a clean lunch. Never heard of drum before, and not a big fish eater- but very delicious.

Lafayette is pure 100% Cajun Country. I don't live too far from there.
Breaux Bridge, on the outskirts of Lafayette, has some of the best Cajun foods around. It's also the crawfish capital of the world. That's where they hold the Crawfish Festival every year.
Houma, La. is plum full of CoonAsses.
