Hi All,

Just got a good deal on a leftover "Demo" 24 Kubota Z781 zero turn with 1 hour on it. I plan on doing the 8 hour oil change in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone has a specific filter they like to run on these. For reference it has the Kawasaki FX850-EFI 29.5hp engine.

I don't really feel like there's a need to get the Kawasaki designed filter, unlike my BX2380 where the factory Kubota filter seems to be the best choice I'm guessing there is something better, and id like to hear what everyone thinks I should run on it before I get to the 8 hour mark.

If it sits horizontally make sure it has a silicon anti-drain back valve, probably one of the smaller 3/4"-16 threaded filters such as Fram TG4967 or Carquest Premium 85394.

carquest premium for OPE, super thick can and a nice tough paint job. silicone ADBV and base end gasket.

IMO, it’s partially dependent on your time between oil changes. <25-50, any filter would probably be fine. However, it would be nice to have one with metal end caps and a silicone ADBV. With how hot the oil runs, I think metal end caps are more important.

So, if 25-50 hour OCI - pick any with metal end caps. I’m not the biggest Purolator fan, but there red cans actually look decent when cut open and are readily available for cheap. WIX would do fine, even though there M+H build quality is poor. Nearly any Fram would work. Any, and I do mean any, Premium Guard Filter would work. That includes Microgard, Pronto, and NAPA Proformer.

For 50-100 hours, I would only choose a Premium Guard Extended filter lime CQ Premium or Microgard Select.

Here’s a list of all the oil filters that are ever so slightly longer that would work.

I ran the Kawasaki Filter and oil while mine was under the 4 year warranty, just to cover my own rear end. After spending thousands of dollars on a mower, saving money on the filter is not where I draw the line.
