i ws wondering what oil to use in my 22hp courage vtwin in my cub 1050. local dealer says that i should use 10w30 kohler oil cause it keeps the valves quiet.i thought that was only in the commands cause the courage engines have solid lifters instead of the hydraulic in the command. just trying to keep from spending 7 bux a quart.

Any quality brand straight 30 weight will work well and a multi grade oil within the viscosity range will work too. Don't get sucked into the Kohler or any other engine or OPE manufacturer branded oils. That's all a scam for them to make big bucks real easy. Stick with good oil brands such as Mobil, Shell, Valvoline, Quaker State etc. and you'll be set.

I have used Rotella 10w30 CJ4 since new in a 25HP Courage. No oil consumption. I just switch over to Rotella T5 10w30.

Cub Cadet themselves recommend 15w40 for the Kohler Courage 20-23hp twins used in the new Z-Force riders. I'd use it in your 1050 as well.
