parallel distribution.
As you probably know conocophillips makes motorcraft, 76, tropartic, and kendall. All four brands are excellent and (close to) identical.
Big lots has Kendall; the only place I've seen it, but I hear it's available in bulk drums.
My Walmart has Motorcraft.
VIP, a local chain, has 76.
Dollar tree used to have Tropartic.
Who knows their motivation unless it's to provide a "unique" product to a distributor without infringing on another distributor's territory. Maybe big lots can strike a good deal on Kendall without Walmart immediately undercutting with tropartic.
The names all have positive connotations and used to be seperate products but recent efficiencies of production have homogenized them all into the same stuff. Kind of like Pontiac/Olds/Buick.
