Would anyone interested give their opinions on Kendall Conventional and Synthetic motor oil and other products. I can find this oil in abundance here where I live, nearly all others are picked over when it comes to oil change time.

I used to love the old, green Kendall when it was an independent company. They had one of the first synthetics along with Mobil 1, as well. Cool packaging, too.

Now, I understand they are part of the Conoco family. I doubt it's the quality it used to be. I can't find it here in Atlanta, except at Conoco stations, and they want $2.99 a qt. for conventional, and $6 for synthetic. And it's got to be a Group III synthetic, which makes that price a crime.

Does this tell you something?

I'm not going to say Kendall is a bad oil, but there are other higher quality products that can be found for the same price.

IMHO, Kendall is no longer the high quality oil that it used to be.

Most 5w-40 oils are designed with european vehicles in mind. They are designed for VW, BMW, Mercedes, extended drains, etc...

They all try to meet certain specs -

• ACEA A3, B3, B4
• BMW High Performance Synthetic Oil (U.S.), BMW Longlife Oil (outside U.S.)
• Mercedes-Benz Sheet 229.3
• Porsche Automobiles
• Volkswagen 505, 502, 500

While Kendall GT1 5w-40 has to be a decent oil to meet these specs, I'm not overly impressed with their other oils.

The oil market has made leaps and bounds in the past few years in terms of quality. Almost every brand name manufacturer has one line of oil that is more impressive than the rest of their oils. If the price was right, I would probably buy Kendall 5w-40 without thinking twice, but at the same time, I would do the same with most 5w-40 oils.

Well all Conoco oils with the GF-4 rating are Group III oils. As was mentioned their Synthetic probably is PAO (going to be hard to prove). I would use the Conoco GF-4 oils in a heartbeat.

Actually, Kendall GT-1 full synthetic is PAO and seems like a very good oil.

Check out the following website: http://www.76andr.co.uk/frameset.cfm If you do a comparison of specs from this website and from Kendall's http://www.kendallmotoroil.com you will see that the Kendall GT-1 full synthetic is the same oil as "76 High Performance Full Synthetic Motor Oil".

According to the product information from the U.K site, this oil is "Turbo tested and specially formulated for today’s higher revving, hotter running engines with high quality synthetic PolyAlfaOlefin and ester base oils ..."

If you look at the specs for Kendall synthetic, it compares favorably with other top oils: HT/HS rate of 3.2 (10w-30); meets the GM Low temp MRV pumpability (6094) and Corvette (4718) standards. Flash point of 455 degrees F and pour point of -38 degrees F. Cold cranking viscocity of 4,050 cP at -25 degrees F; TBN of 7.9 and sulfated ash of 1.0%

P.S. yes, I fully confess: I use Kendall synthetic and I like it. I am submitting a VOA of it this week to Blackstone, so we will see what the lab analysis shows.

All modern oils are better than older premium oils.

ConocoPhillips has 76, Kendall, Conoco, Phillips. With the changes in GF-4 they're probably all the same stuff, and probably all very good.

The percentage of synthetic in blends may vary with the viscosity of the oil...more syn in 5W-30 than in 10W-30 because of the need for the higher viscosity index in the 5W-30.
