Here are the latest results form my last oil change. It was Kendall GT-1 Synthetic Blend from a Firestone service center with a Firestone filter. only paid 12.99 plus tax ,I had a coupon. Not too shabby...Oil seems to be pretty good.

OIL TYPE & GRADE: BULK Kendall GT-1 Syn Blend 5W/30 from Firestone service center
OIL USE INTERVAL: 3,150 Miles
Buick Lucerne 2006 3.8L V-6
17,900 miles
Firestone Filter
3-09 to 07-09 oil in use..
OIL ADDED- 0 Qts.- but it did use about 1 qt. or a little less(29-30 ounces) in those 4 months, I did not want to add any to keep the sample pure.

:Engine wear was a little better in the latest sample from your Lucerne. Copper is still high but that's to be expected since bronze parts are machined differently than steel parts. Consequently, copper takes up to ~50,000 miles to settle down to averages. The oil's viscosity was normal. No gasoline, moisture
or any signs of anti-freeze were present. The TBN was 2.5, showing some active additive. 1.0 is too low a
reading. Try 4,000 miles.

Numbers on left are from previous UOA shell 5w-30 dino, numbers on right are the KENDALL GT-1 syn. blend.

Coppy is kind of high, but it is still new so it is probably break in. TBN says you can probably run it for 5k easily, but visc seems to be at the border of spec depends on the accuracy of the data.

according to the Product Data Sheeet on the CP website, this oil starts out at 10.6 cst@ at 100 degrees C

All the copper these GM motors shed bothers me. What does it?

The TBN isn't great for short amount of miles. I would also guess this is a 4,000 mile oil.

Could the copper found in GM engine UOA's come from the tubes that direct oil to the bottom of the pistons?

I like the UOA from when you used FormulaShell, much better than Kendall GT-1 SynBlend.

I didn't check it that day, but several days before I did check it and it was at 51%, if I'm not mistaken. So I am assuming it would of been in the 48-49 range when it was changed !!

Just wondering why you liked the UOA from FormulaShell better? I think the Shell sheared more out of grade over the same period and miles.

Nice to see a UOA on Kendall...good solid add-pack on that oil.

Held visc. and TBN better than the Shell......

They both have gread additives readings. Note the high boron.
