While I am not familiar with the Y series Lenovo in general has come a long way since they purchased the consumer PC business from IBM in 2005. I've standardized on the Thinkpad T4xx series at work(I'm the IT Operations Manager) and they have been a solid choice. The gen1 X1 Carbons were a total disaster. They went to market WAY too soon with sub-standard guts. But on the whole I think you'll be happy with what you have.
