After a tough day of flying in super smooth cool clear air, the day's ending could not have been more perfect.

Beautiful... Take me for a spin!
My plane is an old lady, I treat it as such, nice to it. Spins prohibited also. However, if you find yourself in South Florida, I'll be happy to go flying with you.

Since this is an oil forum, I've been using Aeroshell 15W-50 in the engine since overhaul. It seems to result in less valve sticking, and being 50% PAO, leaves the engine internals quite clean. But the real reason I used it is for easy starts in cold locations. Unfortunately, the engine has been consuming oil lately. So I switched to Phillips 25W-60 and a splash of Camguard, and oil consumption is down a bit to one quart in 4-5 hours.

I really do need to re-ring the cylinders, as oil consumption should be 1 quart in 8 hours. But compressions are good, and if I can avoid taking the eng apart, that's a good thing. Plus I don't go to cold locations anymore!! Thank god.

For my engine, the oil consumption limit is 0.8 quarts per hour.

The Aeroshell 15W50 and the Phillips avoil have a special detergent/dispersant package that lifts and suspends the lead salts from combustion of aviation gasoline.

PAO has no polar affinity for cleaning.
