I replaced the battery in the title car for a neighbor and forgot to reinstall a plastic cover.
I forgave myself as the bottom of the cover reaches pretty high up AND I'd reinstall the top next time I was under the hood.

I did an oil change yesterday and dutifully removed the cables and hold-down hardware.
It turns out the new battery has flanges on the sides to accommodate a lifting strap. There's no way the cover, which telescopes onto the substantial bottom, can be reused with the battery I selected.

Oh well. I removed and thoroughly cleaned the bottom of the box and the body where the battery sits.

I suppose I'll put the clean top in the trunk as it is an original part.

A friend on mine took an auto tech class as an (easy A) elective at San Jose State back in the 80's.

He told me these two football players came in to swap out a battery in a 1970-ish Impala. The smaller of the two couldn't get his hands around the battery to lift it out. The HUGE guy told him to step aside and he commenced to palm the battery out and put it on the ground.
