Hello I have a JD rototiller and was wondering if anyone knew what they took for gear lube in the gearbox. I was leanin towards a 80w-90 but just thought I would check.

Thanks, Austin

It depends on the tiller.

On some 80w-90 will work just fine. Others pack the gearbox with grease, and there are a couple models that spec 30W engine oil for the gearbox.

If you go to Deere's website and plug in the model number you can probably pull up an owners manual that will give you the spec's you need.

It's deffinatly gear oil I checked it today when I changed the oil. Also went to JDs website and could only find the books on it to buy. About the oil change...earlier this sumemer I added some Lucas oil stabilizer to it because it burns oil (thanks to the previous owner using steel wool as an air cleaner) I ran it for a good 15 minutes then pulled the plug and the oil ran like syrup anyone else have this happen?
