HI, Can anyone please tell me whats the difference between JASO M315 Type 1A and Dexron III, i have read that my Pajero 94 model v6 3500cc automatic transmission requires JASO M315 Type 1A ATF oil, can i use Dexron III ATF instead as it is easily available and what do you suggest i should use and please let me know what quantity will i need.
Thankyou.

Nope. There was a Powerpoint from a Toyota engineer presented at a JASO conference that while Dexron II/III formed the basis for Japanese OEM fluids, the frictional properties are no where close and the M315 spec also includes a few more tests.

The ambiguity is this - "The Japanese ATs need genuine parts ATF
or superior ATF in both anti-shudder
durability and frictional characteristics.
And these important properties are specified
in JASO M315."

In Pakistan, I think you should be able to find Caltex(Chevron), Castrol(BP) or ExxonMobil products. I know Chevron/Caltex sells an ATF-J that will work.
