About a month ago I lost the onboard sound in my computer. Checked my speakers, ran diagnostics, rebooted several times. No sound.

My options were to dig through boxes in the shed to find an old PCI sound card and hope it still works or buy a portable speaker for my MP3 player. Since I don't have the energy to dig through the shed or fuss with computer innards, I bought a little MagicBox II speaker. It's OK but I haven't been able to listen to anything on the web in a month.

So today I clicked on something and lo and behold: SOUND! Perfect sound from my speakers! Everything's back to normal and I have no frikkin' idea why. It's gotta be gremlins.

Many times, I have had to reload a driver( especially sound) after some updates were performed.

It's weird. This is a Slackware Linux box... rock stable for three years. It doesn't do auto updates. Sound was gone, then sound was back.

But hey, at least now I have a nice MagixBox II speaker for the laptop... I just hope it doesn't happen again.
