ABC did an expose and found some attrocious practices by some greyhound trainers.

My state legislators kicked in an enquiry, and are now banning greyhound racing, the first time that I've seen the ads (paid for by the state Govt) was tonight, but I know a few people who have been hit by the interim regulations, that require them to pay for an autopsy even if their dog is bitten by a snake, or apply to the minister to re-home a dog.

As the ad says "only 8 countries in the world allow greyhound racing"...

As the State Premier said the other day..."this is not class warfare"...

Which then causes one to [censored] up their ears, because as a kid, my Dad raced dogs...and I can tell you that a pot of boiling horsemeat on the stove is a part of the gig...

Which leads onto...

Oz ABC on why the dog racing must be banned...

versus where and how the horse meat comes from...

Greyhound racing is a disgusting excuse for a sport anywhere it's practiced-in my opinion it's the pinnacle of ignorance draped in the allure of gambling appealing only to the lowest forms of human debris.

But then I also think the same about horse racing and gambling in general, so I am equally disgusted by either "class".

Yes, the Melbourne Cup should be an equal target I agree.

I think you're onto something there. When the same company ran the casino and horse track here, there were no problems. When a new casino came about and the old one was being phased out and eventually shut down and the new one's off track betting catered to out of province stuff, well, you can guess what happened to the local track.

People eat dogs, kill lions elephants ans well as other people . What is there to say.

Good thing nobody forces you to do it!! For me it's enjoyable to watch. Iam not a big gambler, but I will drop some money at the track. I find it entertaining.

As I said, I grew up with them (greyhounds) up till nearly high school.

We've a track in town, and it really IS a good Saturday afternoon, to take the kids to.

Grab some pies and fries, run a token book, bet maybe $20, and see my kids suddenly become experts in reading the form guide, and being able to tell which dog is in good condition and "keen".

No need to ponce around with glasses of champagne and thousand dollar hats, shaking hands with some Sheikh, having a public holiday (Melbourne Cup is a holiday in Melbourne and Canberra).

Yep, the groups that they are using for "evidence" in the greyhound bans have clearly got horse racing in their sights, but as the Premier says, there's no evidence of the widespread issues (Seriously, 90-95% of the animal bred don't race...they aren't eating clover and waiting for butterflies to land on their noses).

"It's not class warfare", when wheeled out to present that this needs to be done but the horses are still OK tells you everything about where they think that they can get their votes.
