ISOBar expires after being swapped out

I have an isobar 1B-6 that I probably purchased in the early to mid 90's. I think it was only rated for 3300 Joules and had only 6 outlets, but it was built like a tank with really thick metal. It was being use for my home entertainment center.

Recently, I ran out of plugs and also worry that the surge protection portion no longer works after a quarter century of service and replaced it with a unit with more sockets. I later notice that after I replaced it, it stop working altogether. May be it was hanging on until its replacement arrives . Let's salute it for its years of service.

I will be opening up to see if I can determine what happened. I am curious to see why the thing would work for 25 years or old and then died while unplugged.

It would be nice to see one torn apart. They were the de facto surge suppressors in school computer labs.

i dont recall ever seeing one fail.
that said i replaced all the MOV's in mine for the same reason.
they degrade from suppression events.
replacement MOV are cheap at digikey and easy to replace.
best thing is the units are all metal.
so if a catastrophic failure were to occur it would be contained.
