My 940 Volvo turbo has a steady diet of Mobil 1 10w30 since the engine was replaced about 70K miles ago. Except for a 1K mile break in with Pennzoil Conventional it is a synthetic oil engine.

A few months ago, I got 5 quarts of 10w30 Valvoline MaxLife dino free from a rebate. I'm tired of paying >$5/quart for Mobil 1.

Can I use Maxlife in this turbo engine?

BTW the camshaft seal has a minor leak. Will MaxLife cure that?

If I were you, I would use the Maxlife, and change it according to the "severe service" oil change schedule in your owners manual. As long as you do that, and you don't drive it like you stole it every day, the Maxlife should be fine, IMO.

FWIW, I used to run various 5w30 conventional oils in my '00 VW GTI 1.8T. My engine is still very clean, if that means anything. I once ran back to back intervals of Castrol GTX 5w30 & SuperTech 5w30, both for over 6k miles. Both oils were probably sheared like sheep, but my engine doesn't seem any the worse for wear because of it. I've run various synthetics for the last 50k miles in the VW.
