Is this varnish?

Rubbed it with my finger to see if it was just oil covering the white plastic but no plastic is discolored.

200k miles, 2021 Sienna

I'd say not varnish. Just discolored plastic and clean oil

My old Jag, 235K miles, looks perfectly clean when shining a light around in there. Always a diet of M1.

Yep, we're talking about engine related deposits since the questions says something about engines.

Laquer and varnish deposits are two different deposits.
