Found this quote on an 'outdoor news forum', posted back in July, 2005:

"The only thing about the Havoline is that ,when Chevron and Texaco merged they had to change the formulation. The Shell Formula oils are now the old Havoline formulations."

If it is, it may help answer people questions about how good Shell motor oils are - some have said not a lot of attentuion is paid to them. Just more infor for people who are wondering...

Speaking of Shell, I saw Formula Shell at Target the other day for like $1.28/quart. It was SL...

At Targets here, it's $1.35/qt, with only 10w40 & 5w30 available. It's SL, but the 5w30 is rated GF-4.

I think he is making reference to Equillon Enterprises. There is partial truth to it. Texaco and Equillon both had licenses to market products under "Havoline" brand name. I don't remember which website it was, it is either Shell or Chevron website, you will find some references to this if you look. I believe Equillon was a joint venture between shell and texaco. I am sure some google searches will turn up the info your looking for. This should provide better info as my memory is failing me right now.

It has been said by some industry insiders, in the test lab portion of motor oils industry, that the Equillon ( read Shell ) made Havoline outperformed the Texaco made product in every way.

Google it and you will find some interesting reads.
