Hi,
The car in question is a 91 BMW 318i.
I never noticed this before, but have had the shift boot around the lever off for a while, as Im replacing it, and can hear a lot of different sounds now.
The one that I am curious about is this: If Im driving, and then slow down to nearly a stop, clutch in, stic in neutral, like in a parking lot, but while still rolling slowly, I shift into 1st, I hear this whirring noise, like maybe synchronizers speeding up to match the speeds of whats moving in there.
It seems to happen when I leave the clutch pressed in, and go from neutral to first. I havent tried other situations, so cant comment.
Would synchros be spinning up if the car is moving, but the clutch is pressed in? Maybe matching first gear to the output shaft speed?
