Is this Mobil 1 SM?

In my latest OCI, it noted that the additives where my different than my last sample. The only difference is the latest is 5w30 vs 10w30. I purchase the oil quite a while ago.

Is it SM ? Label was SL, 5 qt at Walmart.

I realize that it's a transistional thing, but I purchased this oil a year ago. I always rotate my stock for this reason. I wondering how long ago the formula's started changing and aside from the add pack if the base oil has also been changed.

As you can see my 5k results and my 7k (SM) results are the same. Makes me wonder where the improvement lies, 5w30, better SM base stock, or none of the above.

I guess I'll have a better idea when I test the current fill, which is the last of my oil stash. Once the Mobil 1 EP specs are released I'll make my discusion on what I'll be putting in next.

Check this VOA posted by Stinky Peterson. Your results look pretty close.Some members have stated that companies have been putting out SM GF-4 oils several months before the labels where changed.Possibly due to having labels alresdy printed with SL so they wanted to use them up?

97 GTP - The M1 5W-30 UOA posted for your Pontiac GTP is consistent with the Butler Cat M1 5W-30 VOA.

Currently, it appears the M1 5W-30 Zn, Phos, & Calcium levels are slightly lower than the 10W-30 grade. This may or may not change, as the formulations are finalized for SM.

As far as displaying SM or SL in the API donut, it is a combination of the SL to SM transition policies & the license renewal dates for that particular brand/grade of motor oil.
