Is this a real synthetic?

I've just managed to find a "fully synthetic" 5w30 oil today in a local store (this grade is impossible to find at a good price in the UK)

Here are some details of the contents:
Name % Mass
Hydrogenated polydecene >50
Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate Calcium Long Chain alkaryl sulphonate Calcium Long Chain Phenate Sulphide Hydrotreated paraffinic hydrocarbons
Could anyone here tell from these chemicals if it is a true sythetic oil? Thanks.

The Hydrotreated Paraffinic hydrocarbons part is definately not true synthetic.

ZDDP -- part of the additive package.
Calcium alkaryl sulphonate -- part of the additive package.
Calcuium phenate sulfide -- additives again.
Hydrotreated parafinnic hydrocarbons -- a group III base oil.

A 'true' synthetic oil is generally based on group IV and group V fluids, ie: polyalphaolefins and polyolesters/polydiesters.

According to those numbers, this oil has very good specs. It's 50% or more G4 and has ~1500ppm of Zinc. Not bad!

Hydrogenated polydecene is a mixture of isoparafinnic molecules of known structure, prepared by hydrogenation of tri, tetra, penta, and hexa-1 decenes.

A synonym for hydrogenated polydecene is polyalphaolefin, well known as group IV "PAO" oil.

So essentially, a group III/IV oil, with the group III hydrocrack/hydrotreated component being primarily present to aid in additive solubility.

Ethylene gas yields 1-decene, which is a clear liquid synthetic used for plastics and the feedstock for PAO Grp IV base oils.

So, as I read the MSDS info, it is a minimum 50% PAO and 29% dino blend motor oil.
