Is this a BAD sign?

I have about 1,000 miles on Amsoil Series 2000 in my truck which has 2,200 miles on it. The oil is dark already. Not too dark but fairly dark. NO consumption at all. Isn't it a bit early to be getting dark already? I planned on taking a sample before the winter time. Dodge...

Side note, I found out that the Rams, Magnum and 300 all use Mercedes transmissions. They also did a lot of the electronics on my truck and had some influence on the angle of the windshield.

I bet in the next 3 years it won't get any darker. At least mine didn't.

Don't worry about the color of the oil (it comes out of the bottle darker than Pennzoil)

Everything else looks fine. Truck runs great, no oil consumption or anything. I'm just surprised it's a bit dark already with only 1,000 miles on it. I have been driving hard.

I would not be real happy! The engine has so few miles on it, would think nothing could discolor the oil except heat, and that would not make me real happy either.

A bit dark is normal. Could be the rings aren't sealing perfectly yet. I always have cars that darken the oil....even long before I heard of Amsoil. But synthetic oil will darken in some cars, too. I am usually quite amazed when some guys say their oil never gets dark after 5, 6 or 7 thousand miles!

If the rings are sealing yet, wouldn't the oil consumption be up? I also thought the rings seat within the first 20 minutes of driving?

I went back and read one of my ridiculous posts from 2002 and the same thing happend with S2k in my Toyota. For some reason it became darker then other oils for whatever reason. Thanks.

In my limited knowledge, I understand it can take 3-4 thousand miles for the rings to properly break in to the engine.

I don't think this cause for any alarm.

The engine is new and all kinds of break in things are happening, including getting rid of the factory oil and the anti-seize compounds used in assembly, etc.

Although I am no engineer, if the oil wasn't getting dark I actually would be concerned.

Best of luck
