Their 5w30 blend is about 70-75% group 3 and 20-25% PAO. I know their website doesn't list this, but this info comes directly from their head chemist.

Their 10w30 blend is group 2+ and PAO.

Why the differance,between the two.

I'm not sure, but my guess might be that they wanted the 5w30 to have group 3 in order to help it stay in grade more easily?

Pat,

No Group III base oil in any Schaeffer product that I've seen. #701 5W-30 blend is "100% Paraffin Base Oil CAS# 64742-54-7, 64742-65-0, CAS#64742-88-1" and "Polyalphaolefin Synthetic Base Fluids CAS#68037-01-4"

The #701 5W-30 contains, "Supreme 7000 SAE 5W-30 is blended from the finest quality solvent refined, severely raffinate hydroconverted Group II Plus 100% paraffin base oils and polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic base fluids available."

I really don't think you can believe anyone on the tech lines. I have called Valvoline 3 times and got three different tech reps, and they all said that the Max Life oils are a group 3. Do i believe it? I did, but i now believe the written specs instead.

Ken, what Patman is saying is that notwithstanding the data on Schaeffer's web site, their head chemist is telling people that the 5w30 blend is now made from PAO and Group III.

BTW, CAS# 64742-54-7 can be either Group II, Group II+, or Group III. Any base oil produced using hydrocracking and isodewaxing will have this CAS#. The only Group III that will have a totally unique CAS# is a wax isomerate (like Shell's XHVI or ExxonMobil's ExxSyn), which is 92062-09-4.
