Honestly, I searched for this, but couldn't find anything.

Is the Royal Purple API-licensed oil a licensed dexos1 oil?

Royal Purple's website says, "Royal Purple’s API-licensed SN motor oil meets ILSAC GF-5 and Dexos1™* performance requirements." And I seem to recall recent bottles having the dexos1 logo on them. But when I look at the list of licensed brands on the gmdexos.com website, there's no mention of Royal Purple.

Yes. Royal Purple SN is dexos1 licensed.

My bottle - lot ICPR33J02101 - carries GM dexos1 approval.

I keep hearing this and agree after seeing some of the uoa's vs. mobil 1.
My real curiousity is with the HPS and I'm yet to see anything on it here

You people that base an oil on how good it is based on a VOA dont get the whole picture of how effective an oil is period.

Start doing engine tear downs with an specific oil, only then can you see just how great an oil performs.

So many of you on this forum just barking at the moon with no real data or experience.

It's not on the licensed GM dexos1™ products list from GM. They add it yesterday?

Yeah, true-but it's more than just engine tear downs too...

A long time buddy if mine uses RP in a off his cars, and has had great success with his for years. And he has always run it more than 5k, with no issues at all.

I stand corrected... I just looked on the back of a current SN bottle and it seems to be approved and licensed for DEXOS1, even has the GM trademark for DEXOS 1.

So much for the official website GM needs to update it!

Or just look at some UOA's for double confirmation if VOA doesn't convince you. It seems to be very similar to Napa oil in that PQIA comparison but at two to three times the price and, no, it is not Dexos licensed.

I agree. UOAs and VOAs will tell little about the long term quality of an oil. RP may not have jumped through all the oil hoops, but I believe it will provide an outstanding lube for your engine.

Not to challenge you, but is there also a dexos license number on the back of the bottle?

I got on the dexos web site and sent them an e-mail, asking if RP has any licenses.

I got the following reply from the dexos people:

Mr. Harman, thanks for your inquiry regarding dexos ® licensed engine oils.

Royal Purple does not have a product approved by GM as a dexos ® engine oil. As you know, only licensed dexos ® lubricants are recommended for use by GM in its recent model year engines (except the Duramax diesel engines). GM actually specifies dexos ® oil in the owner’s manual for 2011 and later model years (GM’s European engines started in 2010). Authentic dexos ™ certified products will: 1) display the dexos ™ trademarked logo on the front label, 2) display the specific license number on either the front or back label and 3) be listed on the www.gm dexos .com website. The website is updated periodically. The date at the bottom of the page will reflect the last update.

The following website lists specific dexos 1™ and dexos 2™ engine oils approved by GM: www.gmdexos.com (please see the dropdown menu under “licensed brands.”

I hope that you find the information useful, and please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Thank you, again, for your interest.

So the dexos people are saying that RP is not dexos-certified.

RP makes no claims to be dexos certified so not sure what the issue is? They simply state their API licensed 5W30 meets dexos performance spec's.
