Is Mobil 1 EP really a synthetic blend?

I was just over at the Mobil website, looking at the MSDS for Mobil 1 EP 5W-30, and I found this:

At least it's not harmful in test animals!

All oils contain some amount of dino oil for the base oil, except for I think redline (all ester)?
An all Grp IV oil would not work right. There was a thread on here a while back talking about it.

Mobil used to label their oil as "100% synthetic base fluid exclusive of additive carrier". I would have thought by now Mobil 1 would have had enough quantity that a synthetic (ester?) additve carrier might be used.

You can't go by any MSDS to determine the exact makeup of a motor oil. Templates are used to generate MSDSes for the various oils and the people who compose them aren't always careful to get it right. As long as they don't exclude a component, that's what's important. Listing one that may or may not be in there isn't.

There is no conventional base oil in Mobil 1. The additive carrier is an ester, not mineral oil like it used to be (pre Tri-Syn).
