Is it possible to formulate an oil that meets Dexos1 Gen3 & Dexos D at the same time?

I was just wondering if it would be possible to produce an oil, lets say 5W-30 or 0W-20 that can meet both specs or would there be a conflict with the additive packages? If not where do you think the conflict would come from?

Any dexos approved oil is just that, an approval from GM to put that name on a bottle of oil. There is no ingredient named dexos. If you were to use any oil that doesn't have dexos on the bottle, I guarantee you or your vehicle will not notice any difference. There is no test for dexos, so no oil testing company can honestly say it meet a dexos rating. They can say what the oil tests out in measurable ingredients, but that's it. Use whatever oil you like.,,,

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I was just wondering if it would be possible for a Blender/oil company to create a formulation that could meet both D1gen3 and Dexos D at the same time. If not, what parts of the 2 Specs would be in conflict?

I'm not really interested in finding an oil to do that. Just wondering if it could be done.

It should be possible. Dexos D is based on ACEA C5, which is also compatible with d1G3. There are a lot of euro OEM standards that are compatible with both dexos standards as well.

The phosphorus requirements have some overlap, so there aren't any obvious formulation requirements that would prevent an oil from meeting both standards. The oil would just need to be able to pass both the gasoline and diesel engine tests, which should be possible.
