Is Fram endurance still one of the best buy's for cartridge filter?

the best cartridge filter for that Toyota application is the Mahle OX414D1, or the Full 2-OTT07. Walmart might have the OEM Toyota filter, the same one you'd get from the dealer.
Thanks for the suggestions. I want to switch over to doing 6 month (about 3500 miles) OCI on the Toyota with one filter change out a year. Would the OEM filter or the ST9972 work better for that?

Every time I see one of these, I'm amazed. What a value for Toyota cartridge users! I don't know how long it will last, so if interested, get'em while you can.

It just seems like an anomaly as the photo on the outside of the box shows the regular basic filter and what I believe is supposed to be inside the box LOL... It's like they are putting the wrong filter in this box or something. 🤔 On the Walmart listing it shows the one photo of this synthetic screen backed filter and then the several other photos are of the basic one. It's got to be maybe the best deal ever on this type of filter: https://www.walmart.com/ip/SuperTec...ilter-for-Lexus-and-Toyota-Vehicles/331657550

It's definitely an outlier, not your average/standard ST cartridge. Along a similar line, recently found that the Pentastar XG cartridge to be a relabeled Royal Purple cartridge, and same as the FE cartridge. For ~$2 less than the latter. Obviously though, not close to the ST Toyota cartridge find.

Picked up 4 of the ST9972 filters today and noticed a change to the filter they show on the box. The media is whiter in color when compared to the one I have left, that was purchased last summer.

When the filter gets a change, it usually takes the box a while to catch-up showing that change. We saw that with the Fram Ultra and Titanium spin-ons when they changed. The boxes didn't catch-up for awhile.

The media doesn't look quite as thick in the pic as post #22 example, but wire backed media cartridge for ~$3 still an easy call imo.

Yes, the pic in post #22 definitely shows a thicker media. The oldest ST9972 I have is on the right with a date code of 01/25/24 and the left side is the newest with a date of 12/06/24. The media is fuzzier, for lack of a better word, on the oldest and the pleats look similar in thickness.

I just got back from WM trip where I moseyed over to the auto section to check ST9972s and found something interesting. On an older one there was a red/orange 'sharpied' out area similar to the XG Pentastar cartridge. I had to scratch a bit, and underneath it said MP9972, so an MP series (now discontinued) cartridge with the ST name. I saw the newer ones like above, and they are fine too. If I owned a Toyota with cartridge filter, current ST a no brainer, imo.
