Is Amsoil ASL 5W-30 considered a "thick" 30 wt. oil?

I'm beginning to think Mobil 1 5W-30 is just too thin for me. Is Amsoil's full syn 5W-30 thicker than Mobil 1 at operating temp? Is the ASL close to a 40 weight? How does the Amsoil ASL compare to the German Castrol at operating temp?

What are the specs on Amsoil's ASL 5W-30?

Thank you for your help!

It depends on what your operating temp is. If it is 212f the Mobil 1 will be thinner. But if it is 150f the Mobil 1 could actually be thicker at that temp. I would think that the Mobil 1 would be thinner at all temps though. I don't think you would be able to see it on your pressure gauge.

What Pablo said!

Mobil 1 is simply on the low side of a 30 weight viscosity but it is still "in grade."

I have found Amsoil ASL to be an excellent oil for the higher lattitudes, such as Iowa on north.

I use in my MIL's V-6 Oldsmobile all year round in Northeast Iowa.
