Is Amsoil 5W-40 European a true synthetic?

Yes it is, and a good one. If my car called for a 5w-40, this would be the one.

Well, here's the thing, I have a 05 VW 1.8T and it calls for 5W-40 oil that meets 502.00. I changed the oil last weekend from Mobil 1 0W-40 and the car feels different. The chain rattle went away in the morning and after my long commute on the PA Turnpike, the car is real quiet. I will do a UOA on this oil and will let everyone know.

p.s. I used to be a Mobil 1 believer until I ran it in my car and heard the timing chain rattle in the morning and the "loudness" when the engine was hot and it made me nervous. The Amsoil in the engine keeps everything quiet. I also like the fact that it does not shear out of grade of a 40W and a 14.1 TBN is cool too!

M1 is noisey in some engines and this statement is not intended to bash M1 but rather to simply acknowledge a fact.

Some users do not either care or hear the elevated noise levels, but if engine noise is an issue with you, quiet running oils are out there.
