I am looking at buying an external keyboard for an Ipad. Any one familiar w/ a good brand.

I had one for two weeks - called a MacBook 😉 - not for me - gave it to my son and bought this 13” iPad …

Do you want a keyboard or a keyboard case?

Keyboard: Find a Logitech that you like. My daughters use the K380 for theirs.

Keyboard Case: I've used Anker and Arteck and was happy with them. My main annoyance comes from they usually have a different charging port than an iPad. There's also the Apple provided options, but they're always more pricey.

Not sure this is what you want, but it's what I use for my iPad.

I can easily use it with the keyboard on a table; it also works reasonably well on my lap, although I've only tried it while sitting (not sure I've tried it while in bed, in any position). It's also a simple BT keyboard, so it should connect to most anything.

The spot where you drop a tablet or phone into seems to work pretty well.

Any Bluetooth keyboard is able to connect and send keystrokes to an iPad. What makes it an "iPad keyboard" is having mechanical features that support or encase the iPad.

I have a Logitec one (380?). You can pair it to three different devices. I also paired it to my TV so I can quickly type when I search for shows or movies.

I need a regular keyboard since I do not like the digital keyboard on the screen.
Any Bluetooth keyboard will work. How do you or will you prop up the iPad itself ? As others have mentioned, and similar to what you show in your first post, they make cases with integrated keyboards that fold in a way to prop the iPad up for viewing.

The more expensive ones physically connect with the iPad via the 3 little contacts on the edge. They work a little better than the rest which are Bluetooth .

Yes, @supton is a great suggestion.
My wife has the k380 (might be out of production now) she uses it for both her Mac DeskTop and her new iPad. She preferred the k380 do to smaller size. She has small hands. I was just going to post a link to this one.
Her iPad case stands on its own so she places the iPad at any distance from the keyboard.

Nothing to lose if he doesnt like it, it's Amazon, free returns. Here is the larger k780 supton posted

Here is the smaller k380

The quality feel of these devices (at least for the k380) is amazing
