...seems to use more power than Ios 17.

I updated my iPhone 11 last night by installing iOS 18.1.1. When I shut the phone off the battery was at ~95%. Used the phone for a couple of hours of reading and the charge was at ~35%! With IOs 17 the battery would be at ~50%! Some update.

There are some temporary post-install things that sometimes need to happen and they can be battery intensive.

Please let us know if battery life returns to somewhere near normal after a couple days. I have the same phone and haven't updated yet.

I noticed the line spacing on texts is marginally wider and fonts look ever so slightly slimmer. The biggest enhancement from my perspective is the text unsend. So many times I've made spelling corrections then tried to move the cursor to the end of the text and hit the send button by accident. I haven't noticed any power consumption issues. My phone is a 2 year old SE.

I updated my iPhone 13 no reported issues. I also updated my old xr back up phone the update gave that phone a beating and that battery is still at 90%. Might just be harder on the processor than previous iOS versions.

Updated my iPhone 16 this morning and so far my battery life appears to be just as good as before. My phone is only a few weeks old though.

An update: second day on the updated IOs, and battery usage seems to have reverted to what it was before the update.
Thanks for the update that was the question I had. There is a lot of indexing and housekeeping that goes on after a major IOS update that takes a day or so that uses a lot of power. I might update my iPhone 11 as well. Is IOS 18 speed similar to 17?

So far, the major changes are in the "settings" tab. Lots of rearranging.
