...when taking off from a stop.

"It smells rich, heavy and weird. The engine hesitates the first couple of second after take off and then it drives fine. Oil consumption is half quarter every 3000 miles. Milage on engine is 182000."

It's a fuel-injected engine. Any suggestions what the lad should check?

Nope. Already asked him that. The car has new O2, MAF is working properly, new spark plugs wires, etc. White "smoke" and blue smoke are of course indicators of coolant in the combustion chamber and oil being burnt respectively, while black smoke would indicate a rich running engine, but brown smoke?
