I got in a discussion on compressor requirements to fill a tire. I do gas calculations frequently (hydraulic accumulators), that is not a problem.

Would it be generally true that a mounted automobile tire (typical 15, 16, 17 inch) has a volume approximately (+/- 50%) 3 gallons (0.4 cu ft)?

So starting at atmospheric (15 psia) inflating to 30 gauge (45 psia) will require APPROXIMATELY twice the STP volume of air added to the tire? So if a compressor had no tank but supplied 1 SCFM, I could fill a "typical" tire with about 1 minute of running?

I'm not a student, but always am trying to learn! This is NOT a homework assignment.
