This is a very interesting paper on disposal of 'End of life vehicles'. Paste this address in your b

web page

Interesting points I saw:

1) Average life expectancy of an early 90's vehicle: 14 years. Amazing to me given the general non-BITOG level of care that most vehicles probably receive.

2) Cars are recycled to a pretty high degree (on the order of 85% by weight).

3) See the last paragraph - Bill Ford's vision of a shift in the paradigm of 'vehicle ownership'.

That's pretty good. The last I read, only 75% of a car was recycled. The hardest parts to recycle are the interior components, which the industry calls "fluff". That usually ends up in the landfill.

Bill Ford may have to shift his paradigm on FoMoCo ownership.
