From the M1 website:

"Our lineup of Mobil 1 motor oils includes a 0W-40 viscosity, which is the viscosity recommended by many European car builders. Mobil 1 0W-40's wide viscosity range provides unsurpassed levels of protection and an overall smooth driving experience. Mobil 1 0W-40 keeps engines starting in Arctic-extreme cold, and it cleans deposits, sludge and varnish often formed in high temperature operating conditions."

This is the only oil i've seen touted to clean sludge and varnish from any oil maker.I would think others offer this too but it's often referred to as "resistance" to sludging, varnishing and depsoits.

Maybe they add a lot of AN to this formula?
What else would make this formula strong enough for Mobil to tout it's cleaning abilities

I will say in my short run interval of M1 0W40 it did a better job of cleaning then my 2 runs of German Castrol has in 2 intervals

.I am contemplating going back to it even though I experienced a gas milage drop with it(my ATF/MMO mix added to the gas during the interval may of contributed to this though).

How do you evaluate the cleaning of your engine?

There is a pocket of deposits easily visable through my valve cap port.I can actually see the deposits breaking apart in small pieces and see the varnish layer under it dissapearing

in some spots.

It happened at a faster pace with M1 0W40.

How do you know the cleaning process is linear? Couldn't it be the previous oil partly dissloved the sludge and the infusion of fresh Mobil 1 took away the loosened material?

Well... I've witnesssed the same thing pouring new Mobil Drive Clean after a variety of dinos were in their prior to.

There is no gimmick... probably no room on the plastic quart face to change the name of their product from ....
Mobil Drive Clean
to
Mobil Pour & Cleans

The stuff works.... no knock against German Castrol. One may protect slightly better -- the other cleans slightly better.

I have noticed mobil1 0w-40 does cleaning better that oil grades. But dont know how.Have seen in my camry.
Before mobil1 0w-40 had mobil1 5w-50,Motul 5w-40,Castrol magnetec 10w-30,
Mobil1 0w-40 was the best in cleaning.

I monitored the area during the initial 3k GC run closely,I know what it cleaned

.

The SL M1 0W40 started to break apart and clean the deposits the GC hadn't touched during it's interval.I guess it could very well just be the M1 cleaned what the GC "softened" up I suppose

.

I am currently running GC(2.5k on the OCI so far)with close monitoring of the visable area. The GC is continuing the cleaning but at a slower pace.

I might just try M1 5W40 next in hopes of getting the best cleaning power avalible at my local Wallyworld.I have read this stuff is potent
