Insurance Shopping

I haven't talked to live person in well over a decade maybe 15+ years.
I buy everything on the internet.
Boat, Motorcycle, Cars, Home

When doing this, I only go to the websites of the actual companies. Some get tricked into the thousands of websites that portray to get you quotes from multiple websites. I NEVER do that. I do sometimes get the name of a company I am going to check from those sites but then go directly to the actual insurance company website.

I used to live in NJ and loved NJM. The rates were competitive, and most important, it was easy to file claims and get promptly paid with minimal red tape. Remember, the whole idea of buying insurance is to get your claims paid. An insurer who puts barriers in the way is not the insurer you want.

and avoid, at all costs anything connected with Prudential. They never willingly pay.

I shop everyone and everything multiple times a year looking for lower prices. I think we spoke about this before I previously had travelers insurance on my home for number years they were best for price in the 16 years I live there. I’ve had at least five different homeowner insurance companies Low price always wins

I never bundled insurance, because I always found better prices by not

I have no advice other to say, depending on how you like to use your computer, search high and low and get multiple quotes online

We currently have progressive on our home that was supplied by the builder, which turned out to be a very good price

For our boat and motorcycle, oddly we have progressive as well, but we always had progressive on the boat and motorcycle

For cars and truck in South Carolina we always had esurance but they no longer offering policies when you move out of state to another state.

So now in North Carolina, we have connect by American family, connect casualty insurance company

I don’t even know how I found them except someplace on the Internet🙃

Oh man, we did speak about this before I see this is an old thread 🫤

Maybe dependent on state? I pay $4400 for 3 vehicles including teen girl on policy and home.
Up until insurance became mandatory our insurance on
4 vehicles here was $850/yr total (that wasn’t that long ago)

Now apparently because lexisnexis is getting sued telematics on your phone is getting co-opted directed to insurance companies instead.

And unlike your credit score you can’t view your car driving score or get bs removed from it.

Our cost is $3000 a year total.
Includes our two cars, motorcycle, boat, and our home.

All have $500,000 in liability, cars also have 500,000 for under insured and uninsured drivers, comprehensive on both collision only on one

I'm similar, $2300/yr for 2 cars, motorcycle, house, but no boat. Both cars full coverage, same liability limits.

I have USAA. Currently about $8500 for 5 cars with a 20yo daughter, 24yo son, 79yo FIL (his is almost $2k of it). Homeowners is also USAA through mortgage about $3k. Also have life insurance through them.

Last couple times I shopped to compare, the others I checked were more $$ for less coverage so I have stayed with them (over 30 years currently)

Been with Farmers on the house and vehicles for 7 years. I’ve shopped occasionally but couldn’t get the same coverages for less. Went to a broker this year and he said to stay with Farmers as he couldn’t beat or even match what I had.

$11,000 a year for 2 vehicles and a home, seems insane but that’s the best I can do currently.

That’s excellent.

What 2 vehicles you own ?

We’re with American Family right now. Lowest of the major 5-7 companies and a lot of agents in places.

How can you say $11K a year is "excellent" for 2 vehicles and a home? I pay less than one fifth of that, and I have 3 vehicles.
And they wonder why the uninsured vehicle rate went from 2% to 30% in many areas.

Insurance simply is never worth more than 10% of the value of your car, mine are worth $1500 so I should not pay more than $150 considering I could just buy another car every year for the insurance cost.

It’s getting to be that insurance costs more than your car payment, house payment, fuel and maintenance and many people will stop being insured under those circumstances when insurance becomes the single largest expense.

This is why I've said it won't be long before all the automakers will be installing factory front and rear dash cams in their vehicles. And they'll be tamper proof to boot.

The information they'll get and store for themselves, (abusive driving), and for insurance companies will pay off in spades.
But 99% of what they describe as abusive driving is within 1% of normal driving.

If you accelerate too slowly you pay higher rates, if you accelerate or brake a little too fast you pay higher rates.
if you drive the speed limit and it’s slower than flow of traffic you pay higher rates, if you break the speed limit you pay higher rates. If you drive later at night you pay higher rates even though many areas are much much safer after 10pm and before 4am .

The folks who found themselves on lexisnexis almost universally were paying thousands more per year despite clean driving records. Out of the large bolt group I couldn’t find a single person who didn’t have a massive increase in insurance and there is no evidence that what they are collecting as dangerous driving is anything other than normal driving.

The triggers to raise rates seem to be completely arbitrary and punitive having little basis in reality.

Its all a cash grab
