A friend of mine and myself had similar accidents.
My friend was in the first car at red light, the middle car was rear ended by a third car so hard it rear ended his car with more than $2000 damage, the middle car was total. The insurance of the third car paid for both cars without dispute. This accident was about 20 years ago.
I was rear ended more than 15 years ago at more than 25 MPH when I stopped for a car parallel parking, the force was so strong I hit the car in the front, the damage to my car was more than $5000. The insurance of the car that rear ended my car paid for both cars too. They also paid for car rental while the car was in the shop.
