This morning while driving to work, I noticed my instrument panel display "light up" as it does before I start the engine.
All of the warning (idiot) lights came on. This lasted for about three seconds, and then it went back to normal. This happened while I was driving 45mph in a straight line. The engine didn't die, or miss a beat.
I've already had the IP replaced under warranty for the noisy gauge issue.
My first reaction is to check that my battery cables are tight.

chevy trucks and even cars spanning a decade and a half have been known to have poor grounds on the IP, or lighting harnesses, or other in-dash weaknesses. Not an overwhelming rash or anything like that, but quirks that pop up with age.

You may need an ignition switch.
If it were the battery connection or the ignition switch I think the radio should have died for those few seconds too, as should the wipers and heater fan.
I would think the instrument panel considering it's the only thing you complained lost power and it was monkeyed with at one point.
We own a lot of GM trucks including Silverados.
While it could indeed be the ignition switch be sure and check the battery cable connections very carefully. You'd be very surprised what that can cause.
All grounds, connections and fuses, etc. are suspect.

And you would not believe the stories I can tell you about the one truck we own. TONS of completely bizarre stuff from a simple battery connection being bad.
