I've noticed more than a few of you would be interested in seeing a UOA on Delo 10w30.
I ordered a case of gallons and a case of quarts from my Chevron distributor in May 2003 and I'm using it in my 1999 Suburban 5.7L.
I changed the oil earlier this week and I'm considering doing a UOA at 4,500 miles for all our benefit...however, I'm also contemplating whether the data would be useful. Consider:
- The oil has an SJ rating (at least according to the container), not SL...so perhaps it wouldn't be representative of the Delo 10w30 currently on the market...I'll let you decide. From what I've read here, apparently the move from SJ to SL affects the HDEO's more than others. Obviously you can't "see" what you're buying when you order it from the jobber, and I was surprised to see the SJ rating when I took delivery, and I seem to remember one other post on this board where something similar happened to another user.
- The date stamped on the quarts is October 2002. Gallons are February 2003.
- I have a small oil leak and I will probably have to add 1 to 1.5 quarts of makeup oil...not sure when I'll have time to get the leak fixed. Some of it could be due to consumption. Bottom line is I doubt we'd get a representative TBN. While on vacation last week I had to add 1/2 quart...Delo 10w30 wasn't available to me so I used Havoline 10w30 and perhaps there are traces of moly in my crankcase at the moment.
So...would you prefer I do the UOA in a few months or wait until my current supply is gone next spring to do one with the SL (if the distributor comes through)?
Ohh, JIC you're interested...I looked back into my checkbook and the total bill for the 6 gallons and 12 quarts was $72.18, or right at $2.00 per quart. Didn't save the invoice so I can't give you gallon vs. quart pricing.
