I'm as bad as Patman

This was my first batch of RedLine in my 02 Sentra 2L. I had wanted to keep it in for 7.5K. When the Mobil Drive Clean GF-4 came out I felt it my civic duty to be one of the first to do a UOA on it.

I had 2 quarts of the RL 5W-20 and 2 Quarts of 10W-30. As usual (for this vehicle) it used almost no oil (maybe a couple of ounces) and the fuel economy appeared to be up about .5mpg.

I went with the 5W-30 Drive clean and (couldn't resist it) one quart of the RedLine 5W-20. I plan on going 6K miles on this brew.

We all know the signs. It originates once you've broken the 3k/3m barrier. You start looking at that odometer ....seeing it move so slow. It then starts as a slight itch ...the itch turns warm ....then to a burning sensation .....then seering heat ....your will melting like the wax on a candle exposing the raw nerves of ......

...Oh...errr..sorry ..I didn't mean to be so graphic.

Ahh, I feel your pain! I have StartUp in my Subaru at 2900+ miles, and I am dying to throw some GC in there, or even some Delvac. I had said I would wait until 5000 then get a UOA, but waiting sucks and I drive hard. I worry about my baby...

At least I have ZERO start up wear

Good one!!

Nate, I saw the Castrol Startup yesterday at Autzone for $2.23, not a bad price compared to Walmart at &2.89

Hey I'm reformed now!

I managed to make it all the way to 5k on my first GC run in my Corvette, even though I was super anxious to see the first UOA! I just drove like a madman racking up the miles quickly to get there!

How many miles did you go on the Redline? Did you take a sample of it?

Sorry..I went 6,158 miles on the RL This vehicle typically has higher lead values and I was curious to see if the Redline would bring them down. 2001 Sentra

I realize it was stupid of me not to go with the RedLine for another full cycle bc I'll probably see some cleaning here, and maybe higher wear numbers. (the vehicle has 48K miles on.) I really do want to see how the newest batch of GF-4 oils are doing though. Thanks to carpy, I think were are fairly sure that this will be a Group III (allthough with a weaker addditive package-possibly).

It will be kinda' neat in the coming months to see data on these oils. There are enough of us here that have done enough analysis on a single vehicle, that we will be able to tell for sure if the new generation of oils is an improvement, even with the lower zn. values.

I'm hearing you loud and clear there bud.I will reach the 3k mark on the way home from work today, just 3k,I got another 3 to go,well maybe 2...This is my first run of GC and want to see the results but it's taking to dang long, sometimes I think the odo is going backwards..I have changed the oil in everything I own just to feed the addiction. Now there is not another oil change in sight for at least a month maybe longer...AAAAARRRGGGGHHH.. What to do,I have an itch I can't scratch...What do you all do besides cruise BITOG???

I guess this is where my thinking has changed over the years. With all of Molekule's input on here, it's clear that their is more then a handfull of ways to make a good oil. You might have a great basestock, but weak additive package and vice versa. Your top notch oils have both a great additive package and basestock-M1/Amsoil/GC etc.

When you look at the levels/types of additives of the dino oils like Pennzoil/Cheveron, they are not much different then Mobil 1 except the base oil. So I have no worries the new oils be anything but good.
