really? AEHaas' propeganda's really got me thinking now :S heeh jk its not propeganda, I just like to rev my engine at high speeds and always worried about the drag of higher visc. oils (30, 40)... but I'm probably freaking out for nothing.
 
AEHaas' info isn't propaganda. He does raise great points!

I tried M1 5w-20 SM on my 96 Saturn with 125K on it (see the UOA section). The issue is that the engine is too worn to use the oil successfully. Whether it's seals or blow-by or whatever....don't chance it, it isn't worth it IMO.

Actually it is a contradiction. No 5w20 engine makes it to high mileage.

But I guess two bottles of Maxlife Engine Protector would make a 5w20 into a sort of high mileage oil.
 
If the engine is not leaking any oil, there should be no problem, assuming that the engine is spec'd for 5w20 oil. The Ford/Honda approved 5w20 blends seem to do as well as some synthetics in UOA results.
 
MX6 w/ 280000km - Perhaps an early 90's Mazda. That engine is most likely spec'd for 5w30 below 50 degrees F, and 10w30 above that temp. If you're going to experiment with 5w20 on that engine, I wouldn't do that in the summer, but perhaps in the winter considering you're in Toronto. I suspect that engine will be drinking 5w20 if you insist on using it.
