with the current rebate and availability at Walmart the price is identical for either Mobil 1 5W-30 or Mobil 1 EP 5W-30...is there any reason to use or not use one over the other???...twin turbocharged V6 with 1 year or 5000 mile OCI...with my extended warranty I'd like to stay with a Dexos 1 (Gen 2 or Gen 3) licensed product...

I would appreciate any experience or thoughts you'd care to share...

EP Means more TBN improvers and other additives.
These additives are not volume free, they have to displace something.
I strongly suspect the non EP oil to contain a higher base lube stock % and so give better lubricity.

I have no proof of this, just my gut feeling as a chemist, there is no free lunch.

If I dont do long intervals (say 8000 and up) I would pick the regular oil as the "extra stuff" will not add value at low OCIs and likely displaces something that does.

For the same price, EP. If circumstances required me to go beyond the service interval, I could do it with confidence running an EP oil. Always good to have a safety margin when dealing with the world and all its "surprises" LOL
