Lost power 3p yesterday- 5 pm today. 5 miles closer to the ocean-- nothing-- ocean kept air warm enough to not be an issue.

First night, kerosene lamps and candles:

At least it was sunny and 33'F today:

These trees over my service entrance wire actually made it through:

Ran a generator (1977 McCollough Mite-e-lite that literally weighs more than a saturn 1.9 engine block) a couple hours to charge freezer and fridge. Despite this pic exhasut fumes weren't coming in the house.

Its governor is a little flakey so I keep an eye on voltage:

Tried various things for water collecting so I could flush toilets:

Snow is sort of piling up without melting:

I had to snowblow 10 inches of slush yesterday with the chute always clogging up etc. Today it's cement.

You folks in the south don't know what your missing.

I feel your pain brother. I'm lucky that I have not had the ice so much this year, but the snow around my place looks just about like yours.

It won't be long and spring will be here. I hope.

Oh, we KNOW what we're missing! That's why we live here!

I'm a displaced Yankee. Been through a few NY winters. I'd rather be here. It's going to be 67F tomorrow. Remember this though when it's 105F in the summer here.

I spent 17 years up to my *ss in that stuff in northeast Wyoming. Never again. People in TX treat it like such a novelty. I know people who want to go up there to see it. I just say 'see you when you get back'.

I live in Kansas and what they call a snow or ice storm here is nothing like they were in Michigan. I always tell the guys when were plowing snow and treating the roads that this is nothing. When you have to have a V-plow go down your streets then you can talk.

Good pictures. We don't have anything like that here in warm California. Its sort of fun having no power for a while. Get to take a break from tv, computer and stuff. Keep warm.

Did you plug the power plug from the generator directly to the surge protector? The extension cord is orange and I assume its plugged in one of the surge outlets. I have no idea how generators for household applications work.

That surge suppressor was in the kitchen and the gennie out the backdoor.

That orange male plug goes to another extention cord that ran the TV in my living room.

It's real easy, but I won't do it, to splice a male plug on the end of the generator extention. Jam it in an outlet and you've lit half your house, the half that's on that phase. Do it wrong, eg not disconeecting your main, and you backfeed into the street and the guys trying to fix your wires.

Wow -- That would be bad. I also live in KS -- where we see frequent snow/ice storms. Luckily, all the lines in our neighborhood are buried.

Looks a lot like it does here right now, we had a lot of freezing rain lately and a ton of snow yesterday. Our power only went out temporarily until we flipped the breakers, though.

Was on my way up to Moosehead lake on the 13th of February. 95 was iced over from Augusta north all the way to exit 157 where we got off, didn't see a salt truck for dang newar 80 miles!!! Talk about a [censored] ride!!!!

We know about ice storms in NC. We have very erratic weather here, and anything can happen in winter. Back in 2003 we got an ice storm that took out power for over two weeks where I lived. Nothing like driving a 2WD Ranger over ice to go buy a generator.
