I have been looking for a longer filter to replace the FL1A on my Ford F150 - I finally decided to go with the NAPA Gold 1773 which holds about 1/2 quart more.

Well, I had about 1500 miles on the Delo 15w-40 that was in the engine, so I just took the Motorcraft filter off, filled the NAPA filter and put it on. I drove about 30 miles after this.

I checked the oil level cold before I did this yesterday - and went out and checked the oil this morning...

it is cleaner...the oil was dark yesterday and was much lighter in color today.

In no way did I expect this...is the NAPA (Wix) that much better than the Motorcraft (Purolator I think?)

Well, just thought that this was an interesting observation to pass on...

That might be a result of the fresh oil, giving the additives a boost, & dispersing the "cooties" better for a short time. If it still looks clean in another 1500 miles, then you may have found the magic filter.

Matt, I have to agree with Stuart's assessment.

I really like the WIX/NAPA Gold filters but they aren't known for a really dense media and most of what colors an oil is too small to be filtered anyway. It must be the make-up oil you added after the filter change.
